  • With Online/Distance Learning, you can begin your path to a new career today and be a part of the exciting new future in education.
  • Online/Distance Learning provides flexibility to learn from anywhere at your own pace and at convenient times.
  • Success is evident when the teacher and student interact with the field of study, the teacher grades the work and  communicates on the progress the student is making.
  • Hillsborough County Adult School students who need credit or credit recovery to complete graduation requirements or wish to obtain a GED can enroll in Online/Distance Learning courses.
  • Students will access and complete course assignments 24/7 via the Internet from home, school, or any Internet-accessible computer.
  • Online/Distance Learning instructors will work individually with students to provide tutoring and instruction to complete the course.

Online/Distance Learning GED instruction includes language arts writing, language arts reading, mathematics, science and social studies. After registration, students attend an orientation to meet the Online/Distance Learning instructor and receive a password for login. Students set their own pace for learning and study as their schedules allow.  When ready to take the GED test, students schedule a convenient date at a GED test location.

  • Online/Distance Learning adult students must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in the adult Online/Distance Learning GED Program.
  • Online/Distance Learning classes will provide 2 lab/class hours per week for testing and individualize tutoring/instruction. Online/Distance Learning students must spend approximately 6 hours per week working on the course.
  • Online/Distance Learning GED students must submit at least three preferably five completed assignments per week.
  • Students 16 or 17 years old may enroll in the Online Under-Age GED Program if they wish to take the GED Test prior to their 18th birthday.  Online Under-Age GED students must meet the same entry, enrollment, and exit requirements as traditional, on-campus under-age students.
  • Underage GED students will attend a minimum of 3 hours per week in a lab setting.
  • Online Underage students must spend an additional 22 hours per week working on the course and submit 10 completed assignments per week.
  • Online GED Adult and Underage students must take the TABE test before starting class.
  • All Online GED students must score 6.0 on the TABE Level D Reading Subtest and 9.0 in a minimum of one of the three subtests (Math, Reading, or Language). Exceptions must be approved by site administrator with the director’s permission

Hillsborough County Adult Education uses Edgenuity for Online/Distance Learning Credit Classes.  Site administrators will direct student enroll procedures in each individual situation.  Review the following information for eligibility requirements.

  • Co-enrolled & credit students must complete the student information form (including a current phone number and email address) and provide a copy of a picture ID at the school site and also obtain a Letter of Authorization from their high school (co-enrolled students only).
  • Online students must demonstrate a likelihood of success. Site administrators have the discretion for the 2013-2014 school year to evaluate the likelihood of success a student will have in the Online Program and refer the student accordingly.
  • Online students must have regular daily access to the Internet and a working email address.
  • Co-enrolled credit students are only allowed to take two core courses a year. Each course could be .5 credits or 1 full credit.
  • It will be the responsibility of the authorizing high school administrator to assure the students do not exceed the two course limit. Permission forms will be used for record keeping.
