RETEST INFORMATION

The GED Test includes five subject areas: Math, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading.

A score of 410 out of a possible 800 is required to pass each subject area of the GED test.  An overall score of 2250 out of a possible 4000 is required to earn a diploma.

If you earn a score of less than 410 in any of the five subject areas, you must retake that subject area until a passing score of 410 is earned.

It is possible to pass all five subject areas of the GED test and not earn a diploma if the overall score is less than 2250.  For example, if you earn 410 on each subject-area test, the total score is only 2050.  Even though you passed each subject area, you still need to earn an additional 200 points to pass the GED test.  You can retake any or all of the five subject area tests to earn the additional points.

Each subject-area test may be retaken up to three times in a calendar year.  If a passing score is still not earned in a particular subject area after three attempts, you will be required to wait until January of the next year to retest in that subject area.  You may continue to retest up to three times in a calendar year until the GED Test is replaced with a new version.

At this time, a new version of the GED Test is scheduled for implementation in 2014.  This date is subject to change at any time.  If the entire GED Test is not passed at the time of implementation, the candidate will be required to retake all subject-area tests including the areas that previously showed a passing score.

You must come into the GED Testing Office or one of the registration sites to register to retest.  You will be asked to show identification, fill out an application, and pay for the subject areas you are retaking.

COST OF RETESTING:
$16.00 for Writing
$14.00 for Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading
$70.00 for all five subject areas
