FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GED TEST

How do I sign up to take my GED test if I am over the age of 18?

You must first attend an orientation/registration session.  You need to bring $70.00 cash or money order and two forms of ID.  The session will last approximately an hour.  During that session you will fill out the paperwork and chose a testing date, time and location.

What forms of ID are acceptable?

The picture ID can be a valid driver license (out-of-state driver licenses are acceptable), a valid Florida ID, a recent passport, or a valid military ID card.  NOTE: School IDs are not acceptable.  The social security number can be verified with a social security card, a W-2 form, a payroll check stub, or a military ID card.

How much does it cost to take the GED test?

$70 for the full test. Your money is good for 6 months after you pay.  After six months, you will have to register and pay again.

Can I bring my cell phone to testing if it is on vibrate?

NO.  Absolutely NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed in the testing room.  If you forget and bring it, the battery must be removed and the phone will be collected.  Please leave all electronic devices, including cell phones, at home.

What if I am caught with a cell phone or other electronic device either during testing or during a break?

Your GED test will be shredded and you may or may not be allowed to retest.

If I failed a section of the GED test, can I retake that section?

Yes, you can retake just the section(s) you did not pass up to three times in a calendar year by coming into the GED testing office, showing valid ID, paying for the section(s) you are retaking, and choosing a date to test.

How much does it cost per section to retest?

$ 16 for writing; $14 for math, reading, social studies, or science.  Your money is good for 6 months after you pay.  After six months, you will have to pay again.

What if I am under the age of eighteen?

There are only two ways you can test under the age of eighteen: an underage waiver or an approved hardship.

What is required to earn an underage waiver?

You will be required to complete 225 hours of instruction in an approved underage GED class and score at least 500 on each of the five sections of an Official Practice Test. Contact the GED testing office for an adult site near you where you may enroll in classes and earn an underage waiver

How can I obtain a hardship waiver?

Financial, medical and military hardships may qualify for a waiver to test under the age of eighteen.  Hardship packets are available at the GED testing office.

What scores are required to pass the GED test?

A score of 410 out of a possible 800 is required to pass each section of the GED test.  An overall score of 2250 out of a possible 4000 is required to earn a diploma.

Is it possible to pass each section of the GED test and NOT earn a diploma?

Yes, it is possible to pass all five sections of the GED test and not earn a diploma if the overall score is less than 2250.  For example, if you earn 410 on each section, the total score is only 2050.  Even though you passed each section, you still need to earn an additional 200 to pass the GED test.  You can retake any or all of the five sections to earn the additional points.

Can I take all five sections of the GED in one day?
